One of the popular practices in the Indian households is to place Ganeshji's Idol at the entrance. Let me tell you, you are giving an invitation to poverty in your house.
Many of you place small figurines of the deity as a wall hanging on the entrance gate, but doing this will bring poverty in your house.
How can you be sure if you are inviting poverty by placing Ganpati at your home entrance?

Since it is considered inauspicious to place the back of the deity towards your house, so many people also place another image of the idol on the inside of the entrance. If you are doing this then stop this immediately!
It is because Ganeshji is our GOD, not a DWARPAAL(Gatekeeper). By doing this you are making him your Lord as a Gatekeeper. The God is to be kept in the temples not at the entrance of your house. Moreover, We worship him first then other deities are worshipped. But doing this makes him a gatekeeper.

But where did this tradition start from?
Thousands of years ago when Maa Parvati asked Lord Ganesha to guard outside the place while she was bathing inside. And at instructions of Maa Paravati He did not even let Lord Shiva enter inside. And then we all know Lord Shiva cut down his head and then Elephant's head was placed.
Maa Paravati being a mother could ask Ganeshji to guard the door However we are merely humans. And should not place Ganeshji at the entrance. Rather we should place him in our temple. And seek blessings from him. Instead of disrespecting him by reducing his place only to a Dwarpaal.

If you think what harm can be caused, then there's a village in Rajasthan where this was a customary practice to place Idol of Ganeshji at the house entrance.
As a result that place became the best example of doing this grave mistake and it is now a ruined village.
Around 250 years ago that place was a very prosperous village and now even the state government has declared that place as a SICK VILLAGE. So think how badly the city has been affected.
By doing this you lose all the blessings showered by the lord but also attract poverty. So place the Idol in your house temple or remove them from there.
